A rectangular box shaped stand-off for the engine was cut from a block of ash. It affords wonderful vibration damping characteristics which combined with the impeccable balancing of the Zenoah, result in an extremely smooth running engine: not the slightest hint of flutter in any of the control surfaces with the engine idling at 1600 rpm.
This was my second build of a Top Flite P47, with the first having a fatal crash after a battery wire broke at its terminal. First time substituting Oratex in place of my preferred Solartex, and it proved equally good. The Electron retracts and Eurokitshop hydraulic struts operated flawlessly at the end of the maiden flight in which the plane flew smoothly and predictably. More than enough power from the Zenoah, which is remarkably smooth across its rpm range – never a misfire or gurgle. Lands smoothly with full flaps, but it’s necessary to keep some power applied till flare due to the large drag.
